Daze of Dieting

A Journey through My Daze of Dieting

The Great Disappearing Act. May 15, 2007

Filed under: Dieting, Exercise, Weigh-In, weight loss — Teri @ 6:09 pm

No – I haven’t disappeared or vanished into thin air (though, I know some people who probably wish I had!). I am still here, pluggin along.  I am honestly trying to spend less and less time on the computer and more time doing healthy things. Good things such as walking, and dancing, and getting myself moving in general.

The good news is, that as of today I have lost 12 pounds!  I was shocked when I got on the scale this morning, and even more shocked when I went to buy some new summer clothes and I had dropped an entire size!  WOOT!

Yes, I have a way to go, but I am so proud of myself – thank you very much – every little bit counts! And I feel more energetic already.

Keeping this pace is hard, though – it really is!

The Headache. April 28, 2007

Filed under: Dieting, Diets, Exercise — Teri @ 10:03 am

I was all gung ho on Thursday to jump start my exercise routine. Little did I know that I would not even get half into my day when a migraine struck – one of the worst I have had in a long time.

The meds I take for migraines make me extremely tired. I slept for 15 hours straight – got up to use the bathroom, and then slept for another 3 1/2. This was surely not the exercise I planned. I don’t think that snoring counts!

Couple that with the fact that when I did wake up for the day early yesterday morning, I was STARVING! My daughter had made chocolate chip cookies the night before and there were three left on the plate. So as my oatmeal was on the stove, I ate them ALL!

Later in the day, hubby and I had some shopping to do and I was craving the biscuits at Cracker Barrel – so we made a stop. I didn’t do all that bad – I only ate two biscuits with my tasty grilled chicken salad. It could have been worse.

As I am writing, I am finishing up my cup of green tea, and will get out next to do my three mile walk while the weather is still bearable.

I won’t let this week, or at least the last few days, be a total write-off. The worst I could have done was to have stayed at the same weight – right?

Feeling… A Bit Lazy. April 26, 2007

Filed under: Dieting, Exercise — Teri @ 10:25 am

I think that the gloomy weather has changed my mood, and I am feeling well… just a bit lazy, and not very inspired to exercise.
I planted some Pansy’s yesterday, and did a little walking. But the walking was minimum, just under a mile to school and back to pick up the kiddos.

I want to jump start a new exercise program today with some exercise ball work this morning, and then at least my standard 3 mile walk this afternoon. I sure hope the weather holds out.

I need to get moving.

I wonder why I don’t like to get outside and really work up a nice walking routine when it looks all gloomy outside. I hate that the weather affects my overall mood so much – ugh.

Maybe I need to move to Hawaii! ;)

Weekly Weigh In #1. April 24, 2007

Filed under: Dieting, Exercise, Weigh-In — Teri @ 9:13 pm

Whoo Hoo!

After making a few, uh, eating mistakes – it looks all the yard work and extra movement paid off.

I lost 2.3 pounds this week!

I am officially down to 185.7 pounds. It was not as much as I had hoped, and I did really well for 5 out of the 7 days, but it is an average weekly weight loss. So I am thrilled.

Let me tell you, seeing that “5″ on the end is so satisfying to me. I got pregnant with my first born at exactly 155 pounds, and I was a perfect size 10. I think it was my most comfortable weight too. So that is just 30 pounds until I get there – even though I would like to lose a few more than that.

Onto week two and another loss! I am going to try to do even better.

I would like to have lost 15 by my 40th birthday, which is May 26th. Do you think I can do it? That would be 12.7 pounds to lose in the next 32 days – or about 3 pounds a week. AAAAGH!

How did you do this week?

About Last Night… April 23, 2007

Filed under: Dieting, Diets, Exercise — Teri @ 10:45 am

Ugh – so about last night. Let’s pretend it didn’t happen, okay?

I splurged. I was exhausted, physically, and starving. I ate dinner early – around 4:00, and I worked outside until about 7:30 that night. I had to run to the grocery store, and these little Friendly’s sundae cups were on sale. I bought two – one for me, one for hubby. Thank goodness, I only like the original fudge flavor, or I probably would have bought more. I scarfed it up as soon as I got home and could grab a spoon – oy – not good. I hadn’t even finished unloading the groceries.

That is when I went into a spiral spin downwards, and totally let all heck break loose.

My son wanted an ice cream cone, so I made him one, and I proceeded to eat a plain cone. Just the cone people – yeah, very desperate. Then my daughter baked some chocolate chip cookies to bring to school today. They were mini cookies, but all the same, I had to make sure they tasted fine for her class. Again, again, and again. It took 4 cookies to let her know they were good to go. ;)

I am back on track today, and already took a 3 mile (a bit over, actually) walk. I did it in 59 minutes, so I was moving! I certainly hope that makes up for it.

My weekly weigh-in is tomorrow, and I hope I didn’t mess up my whole week by giving into one night of temptation. I will be sure to update you!!!

SUNday, SUNday, SUNday! April 22, 2007

Filed under: Diet Foods, Dieting, Diets, Exercise — Teri @ 11:53 am

We are having the most glorious weekend here in the Northeast, with temperatures much above normal. What a change a week can make, with temperatures much below normal last weekend. OY!

It is so nice to get out and about and be busy playing with the kids in the yard and such. Today is just a day for yard work. Can you feel the burn yet? All the bending, raking!

Good thing is that I have been doing great on the diet front, eating light, lots of salad, cold veggies, and water! YEAH!

Happy Sunday!

A Great, Long, Fun Day! April 20, 2007

Filed under: Dieting — Teri @ 11:01 pm

I had a great day. I enjoyed the (finally) warm weather with my kids and sister and went to Six Flags.

We had  a blast on the rides, basking in the warm glow of the sun, and just getting outside.

I am so proud of myself, as I passed by every single junk food stand. I got the kiddos lunch, but just sipped on diet coke (just one bottle, which I never even finished) and two bottles of water as we walked around.

Yeah – a Great day, all around!

Day Two. April 19, 2007

Filed under: Diet Foods, Dieting, Exercise — Teri @ 7:26 pm

I did much better today, saying this as I nibble on some trans fat free oyster crackers and bottle of water.

Breakfast – stayed on track, lunch I had a veggie wrap with turkey and lettuce, and a bottle of water. Then just a salad for dinner, and now the crackers. I had only one diet coke today – YEAH!

I also did a lot of walking just out and about and stayed very busy today. Tomorrow will be extremely busy as I am taking the kiddos to Six Flags with my sister. So that will be a lot of walking and fun, but tough passing by the Ice Cream Dots and Funnel Cake stands.

Right now, I am going to use up the rest of the daylight and take a walk – just me and my iPod!

The Rest of Day One. April 18, 2007

Filed under: Dieting, Exercise — Teri @ 10:34 pm

So, it wasn’t the absolute best day to start my diet, aka life change.

It was a chaotic day, so I probably didn’t eat as much as I should.

I had a quick applesauce cup and a few unsalted crackers for a snack. A salad with soy flake bacon tasting things on top.

When we went out this evening, my youngest got a Ben & Jerry’s small vanilla ice cream cone, and didn’t want to finish it. Now, I couldn’t let that $3.50 for a cone go to waste ;) . There were only a few licks of the ice cream left, but I ate the cone – at least it was a plain one.

I also think I had way too much Diet Coke today and not enough water. UGH! I always drink one bottle of water right before bed, and that will be it for my water intake – NOT GOOD!

Tomorrow, I will get right back on with a concentration on my water intake.

Also, I got a nice walk in this afternoon, and about an hour and a half browsing the mall tonight. Moving around, but not working up a sweat.

Day One. April 18, 2007

Filed under: Diet Foods, Dieting, Diets, Exercise — Teri @ 10:47 am

Got up a little late today – it was 9:06. Being Spring Break with the kids sleeping in, I guess I took advantage.I didn’t get to my breakfast until a few minutes ago, a bit after 10:30.

I had a store brand lite English Muffin. If you have them at your local grocery store, give them a try. Mine taste great, with just 90 calories for the entire muffin, 0 Fat – saturated or trans, 0 grams of cholesterol, 5 g of Protein, and 21 g of Total Carbohydrate. A good choice for a bread lover like myself. I am easy to please as well, as I like it just toasted and dry. I enjoyed my muffin with a cup of Green Tea. I have to find the caloric information on that.

After I get around to showering, I plan to take my two littlest out on their bikes, and I will walk with the dog. We will see how long that lasts. I am aiming for at least a mile, but it all depends on how cooperative everyone is. I plan on getting into a major walking routine every morning right after I get the kids off to school.

For food, I should be good until mid-afternoon, when I plan on enjoying a nice green salad. I like that dry to, so I don’t have any calorie worries with that. Except for my carrots – I know they are really a carb, but I just have to have them shredded on top of my garden salad.

I’ll update tonight on how the rest of my day went.

I plan on having a great first day!
